On Tuesday, March 5th, IB Visual Arts students, alongside Léman students, families, and faculty, celebrated the opening of this year’s IB Visual Arts Exhibition. Featuring two years’ worth of artwork by Léman’s IB Visual Arts seniors, this year’s exhibition uplifted the creative visions and voices that students have honed over the course of their time in the IB Program. What’s more, each student was also tasked with creating a one-of-a-kind installation to showcase their artwork, creating small spaces in the larger gallery that fully express their respective creative frameworks.
Each year, this exhibition allows for students to further develop their personal artistic interests through the exploration of different mediums including painting, sculpture, drawing, and more.
As a core part of the burgeoning artists’ pursuit of their IB diplomas, preparation for the exhibition involves a significant amount of research and written work. In their junior and senior years, students solidify the focus of their installations (or “connecting conceptual threads,” per IB Visual Arts teacher, Ms. Palermo) through self-guided work including studying the work of artists past and present, identifying the mediums that resonate with them most, and more. Students are also tasked with writing final reflections about their work, which include a piece of exhibition text and a curatorial statement, to highlight their thoughts on both the concepts and processes they explored throughout putting their installations together. The IB Visual Arts Exhibition also serves as the Internal Assessment (IA) for their final IB assessment.
Congratulations to all of the artists!
