Léman Hosts Inaugural International College Fair

The afternoon of Wednesday, October 26th marked the first-ever International College Fair. Having taken place in the Café at Léman’s 1 Morris Street campus, the inaugural event invited representatives from 20 colleges and universities outside of the United States to present on their school’s culture, curriculum, and application information both to Léman students currently embarking on the college application process and to eighth graders, who are looking ahead to begin their processes soon. Attendees included Anglo-American University (located in Prague), London Metropolitan University, and The American University of Rome, amongst others. The event was especially apropo given the international array of highly competitive colleges and universities alumni from our first 10 years of graduating classes have gone on to attend. 

The event provided the unique opportunity for students to explore the breadth of educational opportunities available to them abroad, something fitting as they continue to grow as global citizens. “We have such a large number of students in the IB program and also from other countries and backgrounds [that are] really hungry to see what exciting college options exist overseas. So I thought it was necessary to try having a college fair specifically featuring international colleges,” began Director of College Counseling Dennis Vasquez said when asked about the inspiration of this event. “It's also helpful for students to get access to college information earlier to help them prepare better down the road. For that reason, I wanted to invite younger grade levels to the event.”

While Léman already invites a bevy of college representatives to visit with students engaging in the college application process, this event creates even more accessibility to explore their options more broadly (and without needing a boarding pass!) “I am particularly excited about this fair because we have a range of colleges coming from distant countries like Cyprus, China, and of course several in Europe,” said Mr. Vasquez. “I hope this event will be one of the many events hosted by the Léman College Office to offer even more resources for students.”

Throughout the year, representatives from over 100 colleges and universities across the globe visit with Léman students to give insight into what their schools have to offer. Visits thus far have included ones from the University of Southern California, Morgan State University, the University College of London, the University of Miami, and more.
