Physical Education and staying physically active is an essential part of Léman's curriculum at all age levels and one of the best ways to keep our minds and bodies healthy. In addition to structured Physical Education classes, we are committed to providing our young learners with scheduled recess time each day. With the health and safety of our community our top priority, our Lower School administration, and staff have developed a detailed and thoughtful plan that keeps our students safe, healthy, and active during this time.
In order to maintain the required social distancing for both active and non-active play, our Lower School staff identified four key locations for recess, including the roof playground, gymnasium on the 9th floor, classrooms, and large common spaces on each academic floor. Each grade level has designated time in each location on a rotating schedule and faculty is responsible for ensuring that students wash hands before and after play, wear masks, and physically distance from their peers. Students are also encouraged to bring their own toys and activities for non-active play during recess in the gym or classroom. Our dedicated faculty members are also using this time to lead movement such as yoga, dance, and other non-active activities and games.
We are so grateful to our Lower School Physical Education faculty for developing such an organized and well-thought-out plan that keeps our students active, safe, and having fun!
