Léman launched the "Summer English Academy," which helps international students build their proficiency in language skills. The program takes place in August over a two-week span allowing students to acclimate to life in the U.S. Many of these students have decided to continue their education at Léman this fall.
The students had rigorous schedules that involved daily time in the classroom to develop a working language proficiency in the four skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The "Summer English Academy" has been a huge proponent with helping the students’ foster confidence in speaking and working collaboratively with others, as well as adjusting to life in New York City.
The "Summer English Academy" also allowed students to explore the city with various excursions including a ferry ride to Ellis Island, a night out in Coney Island, and attending an MLB Baseball game.
"We are all humans, just each of us have different cultures," Tamra Pica, "Summer English Academy" teacher, emphasized. Ms. Pica went on to explain the importance of this program for international students coming to the U.S. for the first time, "This program is all about real world experience meets academic rigor."
