Congratulations to freshman Alexander M. who executed a successful fundraiser in support of the Ronald McDonald House (RMH) on April 27th. The culinary fundraiser, which he organized alongside his longtime friend Joshua, provided a full tasting menu to 30 guests.
“I was inspired to create this event because the Ronald McDonald house is in my neighborhood and every time I passed the house I would see parents wheeling their sick child out of the house,” Alexander began when asked about the motivation behind this event. “Some of the children who stay at Ronald McDonald House travel from all over the world to receive the assistance and a place to sleep that they require. I never gave up on my event since I knew the kids were in danger and suffering the entire time I was working.”
The process of coordinating this event was no small undertaking, requiring Alexander to ensure the promotion and day-of logistics were air-tight over the course of several months. Ultimately, Alexander is happy to say that their hard work paid off, noting that with “the abundance of supportive individuals” that surrounded them, they raised over $6,000 for the Ronald McDonald House. The event also received coverage on CBS Evening News, Patch, and Pix11.
Using the momentum from their success, Alexander has big plans for the future. “We've decided to make this an annual event and we'd like to earn additional money by perhaps offering two separate seating times,” he mused.
When asked about how he felt with this first event now over, Alexander’s answer was simple: fantastic. “I had truly enjoyed working to raise funds for such an important cause. Assisting as many children as I could was the least I could do,” he said.
Great job, Alexander!
