4th and 5th Grade Students Explore Digital Music Composition During Virtual Visiting Artist Series

As part of our new Virtual Visiting Artist Series, Ken Greene, a veteran music educator, and instructional design specialist visited our 4th and 5th Grade Music Classes to further enhance the music technology unit that Ms. Sheffer initiated this year. Mr. Greene’s presentation focused on guiding our students through the process of using the BandLab platform to create their own music, to collaborate with other musicians, and to discover how they can use their musicianship in new and exciting ways.  

Mr. Greene is known for designing creative courses that fuse music and technology together to create fun and educational experiences for students. He is currently the music and media specialist at the Kate Bond Middle School in Memphis, TN, where he also serves as the Fine Arts Department Chair. In addition, Mr. Greene is a sought-after Educational Technology Consultant who works with schools and teachers on a variety of ways to utilize technology in the classroom.  

During the presentation, students had the opportunity to experiment with BandLab and learn more about Lo-Fi, Hip-Hop, and other genres of interest.  Our students were so inspired by this workshop, that many of them created their own music by lunchtime – just a few short hours after the workshop concluded! We look forward to sharing the students’ musical creations with the Léman community in the future.
