Honoring Unsung Black Heroes in Middle School History

In honor of Black History Month, Middle School students participated in a meaningful project celebrating the lives and legacies of influential Black figures. Each student selected either an unsung hero in Black history or someone they personally admire and translated that individual’s story into a piece of visual art - without the use of words - challenging them to communicate impact through symbolism and imagery alone.
Students also designed timelines highlighting pivotal moments in Black history, deepening their understanding of the people and events that have shaped our world. Through this work, they expanded their historical knowledge while strengthening their ability to interpret influence, honor diverse voices, and express powerful narratives through art.
