Tomorrow, February 10th, marks the start of the Lunar New Year!
In preparation of Year of the Dragon, the Léman community has come together in a variety of ways to celebrate and learn together throughout the week. Read on to learn more about how we've been commemorating this festive time:
Wrapping Delicious Dumplings
On Monday, Mandarin students in lower, middle, and high school took over the Broad Street cafe to wrap chicken and vegetable dumplings! Once the cooking was done, the food was shared with members of our community at large – a delicious way to kick off the week’s festivities.
Festive Parades in Early Childhood & Kindergarten
On the morning of February 9th, CECE students celebrated the Year of the Dragon with a fun and festive parade! Featuring a larger than life dragon made by kindergarten students and colorful decorations made by early childhood students, Léman’s youngest learners rang in the new year in a truly joyous way. After the parade, early childhood students also enjoyed a show and tell with CECE and Lower School Mandarin Teacher, Ms. Liao, who taught students about the Lunar New Year’s many traditions.
Classroom Celebrations
Lower school and early childhood Mandarin students have spent the week learning about the many ways people around the world celebrate the Lunar New Year. In the classroom, they’ve expanded on their learnings by learning celebratory songs in Mandarin, and have been making paper dragons to commemorate us entering the Year of the Dragon.
The Asian Awareness Alliance’s Community Potluck
On February 8th, the Asian Awareness Alliance hosted a community-wide potluck in the Morris Street Cafe. With games, music, and delicious foods from Asian cultures across the diaspora, there was plenty of fun for all!
We wish all those celebrating good fortune, happiness, and health in the new year!
