Head of School Maria Castelluccio Quoted on New York School Talk

July 30, 2019

Head of School Maria Castelluccio was recently quoted in an article on the blog New York School Talk titled "Should the NYC Department of Education Be In Charge of Private Schools Too?" The article focuses on the new "substantial equivalency" guidelines proposed by NYSED which would require local Boards of Education to assess all independent schools every five years.

In the article, Maria is quoted as saying, "We are not in favor of the NYSED substantial equivalency guidelines as proposed. It is unnecessary to spend the significant amount of time and money required to properly assess NYSAIS schools that already undergo a proven review process every few years, in which many NYC independent school exceed regulated expectations. NYSED and local public school officials should direct their funds, time and energy to strengthening local public schools, not waste resources on duplicate reviews."
