CECE Students Build World Language Skills in Expanded Program

Last academic year, our World Language Department Chair and faculty collaborated to study and evaluate Léman's world language offerings to our Early Childhood students. Research suggests that for our youngest learners, providing frequent exposure to a language will lay the foundation for increased language proficiency as students continue their language development at Léman. This year we were excited to be able to increase the frequency and choices for World Language study for students in the Center for Early Childhood Education. PreK 3 and PreK 4 classes have increased from two sessions a week to four sessions a week and are now able to choose between Mandarin and Spanish. Kindergarten students are now offered three sessions a week, up from two in previous years, and choose among Mandarin, French, or Spanish as the language that they will continue throughout Lower School.

The Center for Early Childhood has dedicated World Language teachers on staff, who are Early Childhood Educators themselves, as well as native speakers of the languages they teach. These teachers collaborate with classroom teachers, ensuring that the World Language instruction mirrors the curriculum themes that are studied in the classroom.
